Why should I join instead of just attend as a non-member?
As with anything, you get out of it what you put into it. As a member you are more connected to the meeting planner community and have access to education (including CE credits), development and networking resources only available to members. And you are only allowed to attend 2 events per year as a non-member. Check out some testimonials from current members about what they get out of their membership.
What are the different levels of membership and what do they cost?
There are three levels of membership available; Essential, Preferred and Premier. We highly recommend joining at least as a “premier” member because you will then be affiliated with and connected to our local chapter. The essential membership is only a membership with Global MPI and does not allow you to volunteer with our chapter or provide you discounted rates for attending chapter events. Cost of membership varies based on planner/supplier status as well as the level you join. Find more information here or contact our membership team at Kelly.Rocha@calcpa.org
Am I required to attend a certain number of events as a member?
Although you are encouraged to attend as often as possible, there are no attendance requirements. Various events are held monthly throughout the year and you are welcome to attend when your schedule allows.
Can I be affiliated with more than one chapter?
Yes. You can be a member of one chapter and be an “affiliate” member of another. Click here for more information on affiliate memberships.
What type of education and resources are provided to members?
We strive to provide education that is relevant and beneficial to our members. The events team seeks speakers with content that pertains to current industry challenges based on their experiences and suggestions from our membership. There are also many online resources available through MPI Global. Find more information here.
How many members are part of MPISSN?
Current member numbers are constantly changing but our chapter has roughly 225-250 members.
What is the ratio of Planner/Supplier?
The ratio fluctuates with membership, but it is roughly 50/50.
How often are there MPISSN events?
Roughly once a month, but this varies.
What do most events cost to attend?
Cost varies depending on the type of event, but generally they range from FREE to about $65. Specific information on upcoming events can be found here.
What kind of sponsorship opportunities are there?
We offer sponsorships and advertising opportunities on various levels, either overall or for a specific event. More information can be found here.
If I want to join a committee, what is available and who do I contact?
MPI is run exclusively by volunteers so we love to get members involved. There are lots of opportunities to chair a committee, or just volunteer an hour or two when you have time. Check out our volunteer a la carte menu here and contact Lynda.Sagar@sheraton.com, President Elect to find out how you can help!
Does the chapter support a charity? If so, I can I participate?
We do. We run several programs throughout the year that support our local charity of choice. There are many ways to help and get involved, including donating personal items as requested, financial contribution, donating raffle and auction items, and participating in hands on volunteering opportunities coordinated by our Community Outreach Chair. Read more about our charity and how we are supporting them here.
I am interested in a board position. How is the board determined and who can I talk to?
The board slate is determined by a group of past presidents of our chapter based on interest level, experience, recommendations and an overall desire to help make our chapter thrive. You must be a member for at least a year to be eligible for a board position and we typically recommend you be involved on a committee level before joining the board. If you are interested in hearing more, please contact email@example.com, Immediate Past President.
I’m new. Does MPISSN offer any type of mentoring program?
We sure do, and we love to get our members connected. Read more about our mentor program here or contact our VP of Membership directly to get started.
Does my membership qualify me for member pricing for other chapter’s and MPI Global events?
Absolutely! Once you are a member of a chapter, your benefits extend throughout the MPI Global network.
