Contract Clause Analysis- Club Ballroom A

Most meeting & event planners and venue sales people do not have the time or the resources to have a lawyer review all their contracts, with regularity, so they must learn to spot potential legal issues themselves. Veteran Hospitality Industry attorney Lisa Sommer Devlin will present contract clause case studies that lead to actual legal disputes for Workshop participants to review. Together, participants will work in teams and try to determine the language in the contract clauses that caused the issues. Lisa will provide a follow-up discussion with tips for how the clauses could have been better drafted to avoid the problems.  *[Please note that the original client names have been changed to protect the innocent]

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn the importance of taking action immediately when you discover issues just after contract signature
  • Establish a best practices process when reviewing hotel and venue agreements
  • Discover what your options are when you don’t have a legal expert in-house

Legal Issues in Event Contracts 2018 - Club Ballroom B

What are the top legal issues confronting the event industry today?

From the #MeToo movement, to mass shootings, to GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), how do these issues impact your contracts? Are new clauses needed? Who is responsible?

Join Lisa Sommer Devlin and your industry peers for a review of some of the hottest legal issues in the industry. Lisa will provide insight to help planners and hoteliers alike understand how to address them.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about the most prevalent clauses trending
  • Discover why “one-clause” may not fit all and how some non-specific language could make you vulnerable
  • Gain understanding of the onus of responsibility
