The Lawyers Debate: Today's Hottest Meetings Contract Issues
 
Uncomfortable discussions between planners and suppliers have become more common as a traditionally relationship-oriented industry has been rocked by the ecomony.  While everyone involved needs and wants to maintain important relationships, they must also advocate for their own organization when contract issues arise.
 
Two renowned meeting industry attorneys have developed a program that debates the issues from both the planner and supplier perspectives -- including "after the contract" situations many meeting industry professionals have encountered since the economy changed course.  This energetic, unique format will enlighten you on the other party's perspective and arm you with the knowledge all meeting professionals need to know when faced with a contract issue.  You may have learned a lot about contracts during your career, but nothing is like it used to be.
 
You will learn to:
Understand the business and legal perspectives regarding hotel contract negotiations
Learn strategies to overcome common objections related to clauses such as rate protection, attrition, cancellation, and force majeure
Identify techniques for resolving common disputes which arise in hotel contract matters and how best to avoid litigation.

About the Speakers: 
Barbara Dunn is an attorney and partner with Howe & Hutton, a law firm specializing in the meetings industry and not-for-profit organizations.

Lisa Sommer Devlin, of Devlin Law Firm, has practiced law since 1984 and has concentrated on hospitality law since the early 1990s. She drafts standardized contracts, provides legal training for sales staff and handles meeting related litigation nationwide for major hotel chains, including Hilton and Starwood.
